WIP: "True Blood vs Michael Emerson"

Images © Rivka Nipper 2012

I debated posting these for some time since I plan on gifting them to someone eventually, but since they've been such a time-sink, and since I've been putting so much effort into them, I decided to post a preview of this wacky little project-- if for no other reason than to remind myself that I've actually been accomplishing something in the last few weeks.

Here's the thing: There's been a lot of internet speculation as to whether or not Michael Emerson (Ben from Lost, Finch on Person of Interest, next-door-neighbor Charlie from Ready? OK!, Mr. Hinks from The Practice, etc) will be showing up (along with his wife, Carrie Preston, who plays Arlene) in this upcoming season of TrueBlood. Needless to say, this would be so completely radical as to create incendiaries of my underthings, and for once the entirety of the internet agrees with me.

So I want to do a series of fairly plausible but faintly silly cameos of characters he could play on TrueBlood, including Awkward Suitor, Over-Enthusiastic Merlotte's Waiter, Smitten Blood-Donor, Vampire Temperance League Activist, Ghost-Baby-Sitter, Fairy-Godfather, Chihuahua/Bunny/Hedgehog Shifter, Unlikely Pack-Alpha, and Cordon Bleu Vampire Chef/Restauranteur.

Just throwing those out there.

Okay. *knuckle cracking* Back to work.

(Creating slogans for teetotaling vampires is now my new favorite hobby.)

Poem © Rivka Nipper 2008-2011

A much edited poem about my favorite big bad wolf, my Jazz-Age knave, my poppy-peddaling popinjay, my rakish roué, Mr. Jourdain. Works best if read aloud.

Seven Devils- Rivka Nipper, 2012

"Holy water cannot help you now
A thousand armies couldn't keep me out
I don't want your money
I don't want your crowd
See I have to burn
Your kingdom down"

Inspired by "Seven Devils" off of Florence + the Machine's new album, Ceremonials. The city is based on several photos I took of the Prague sky line. I let myself stay pretty loose on the line work and coloring, despite being particularly obsessive about these things normally, and I'm surprisingly happy with how it turned out.

Ceremonials is one of those albums that inspires very specific cinematic sequences in my mind every time I listen to it. Some day, I hope I can get little cameos like this one drawn for every song.

Mushrooms and Acorns -- Rivka Nipper, 2012

A card for my uncle's friend who is in the hospital. The oak leaves are supposed to be for strength, and the mushrooms are because ... well, both of us love mushrooms.

Angora Cat Tattoo Commission- Rivka Nipper 2012

Here are some basic tattoo designs I've made over the years. The owl prince is currently on my collar bone, and as soon as I'm able, I plan to get the OZ lion on my shoulder. :)

Neoplastic Revolution - Rivka Nipper, 2010

Detail

Rufus Shinra © SquareEnix 1997

Ever since my partner put forward the idea, Mondrian and neoplasticism have been inexorably connected to Rufus Shinra in my mind. The neo-plastic aesthetic relies on lines, simple geometric shapes, primary colors, grey, black, and most importantly, white, to represent the world according to the artist's intuition. Mondrian's life, work, and neurosis all remind us of certain qualities of Rufus.
As a side note, the Mondrian Hotel looks like Shinra Company paradise...
